How I work

I build each ceramic by hand, carefully joining together coils of clay, without ever turning. On their slightly wet faces, I apply several layers of engobes or colored clays with different brushes, and on the inside, after the bisque firing, glazes in rich shades.

I prepare every material I use from their raw components, based on formulations I have been testing over the course of many years. The components I use are minerals, mainly clays, flint, feldspars and a variety of oxides and carbonates.

My ceramics are fired at high temperatures; they are therefore, strong and durable. I fire all the pieces twice: in the second firing, they reach maturity and their final appearance at 2282°F. It is the completion of a long and fascinating process, after which a finished piece emerges.

My ceramic pieces are different in shape, profile, and size; not one is identical to another. On their surfaces, contrast and movement, abstraction and figure, define their unique character.

According to shape and possible uses, I have classified my work in five ceramic lines: Okhra, Terra, Azura, Kreta, and Umbra.
